Triumph of Death: Of Martyrs and Reliquaries

The bless and burden of the Martyrs and the Reliquary

Martyrs and Reliquaries

Picked up these cool sculpts from Drew Williams today! They are stretch goal unlock pieces that folks will be able to get in my Kickstarter.  I wanted some nice set pieces that were not quite command models but were not necessarily rank and file, either. Stuff from which vignettes can be formed.

The poor fellow carrying the basket full of heads (reinforcements?) is an homage to the old Minifigs line. They did a model similar to this. It just tells a great story.  Originally we had human "live" heads in the basket, but it was too grim. Skulls work better.

 The Fisher King Reliquary

So this little drawing is something I've been doodling for over a decade. Not sure it has a true story behind it, but rather a mystery as to why it keeps coming into my head. Drew saw my drawing my studio one day, and the next time I went to visit him he had started to sculpt it! Really cool!
As he was working on it we talked about what it was, how heavy it might be, etc. In the end it was decided that it must be a reliquary. I believe it is a reliquary for St. Colin Dude, and contains a piece of the true piling he wiped out on.
A sketch of the piece from last October.
I can't wait to paint this guy up!

Kickstarter update:

So the Kickstarter is ready for submission. Once in it takes a few days for approval (or it did last time I did it) then we get to go live! fingers crossed everyone!
This evening I was trying to take pictures of painted units that will be available as pledge rewards. Even with my adhoc studio set up they were not coming out as clean as I would have liked, so will reshoot the pieces during the day.
a sneak peak at long distance. Also I realize my ideas board may give away upcoming things...

Cheers, and as always, I love your feedack
