ToD Torch Bearer
Adding to the list of command models for my upcoming Kickstarter is the new torch bearer/ standard bearer. This model is a blatent homage to the wonderful Minifigs models of yester-yore. He'll be one of my standard bearers for my upcoming Triumph of Death minis line, and dear to my heart as an Iconic skelly.

I'm figuring on doing different color fire for unit I.D. |

Taking shots in different light settings, to see what looks best. |
Armored Commander

These pics are a bit over exposed. need to figure out my lighting better

Love this guys casual but in charge stance. |
This stalwart gent is based upon the Holbein woodblock "Death and the knight"
After doing a couple of concepts with him holding a lance, I opted for the flamberge sweihander.
|
I'd love to do this as a vignette someday. Maybe a stretch goal? |

My concept, from which the talented Drew Williams worked. He's a miracle worker! |
A Question of Scale
I've been getting questions about scale of the models. Here's a pretty comprehensive review with companies doing late medieval and Renaissance or other undead. If there's a mini you'd like to see scaled with, or even a full unit, just put them in a bubble wrapped envelope and send them over to me :) As you can see below, the models work well with most all ranges, and measure 28mm to the eye similar with GW, Copplestone, Maurader, Steel Fist, etc. I'm really excited of having them with my LAF Breugelbergers!
|
The goal was to have my ToD line really work with many groups |
|
Minifigs true 25mm next to ToD. So cute! |
|
The Breugelberger is immense, and beautiful. May just have him commanding a unit of ToD |
I am getting so excited about these guys..... I just hope the exchange rate pound/dollar perks up a bit before February! Thanks for the scale pictures...the shot of the Minifigs shatters my fantasy about using them together (unless the Minifigs skels.are kids), but the beacon bearer fills me with hope that there will be more resculpts of the iconic poses in the VFW line. FWIW, I prefer the skels. with no armour, but that officer does look sinister lacking his jawbone. Great work so far!
ReplyDeleteSpinginsfeld- Thanks for the feedback! You know you could always use the Minifigs as part of one of the ill fated children's crusade. And you know, the plague and all. Not many of the skellies will have armor, just a few like officer types to make them stand out. The standard bearer I'm sketching up now may or may not have a bishop's mantle.
DeleteCheers!
Undead bishops sound cool.... like those preserved saints in some crypt in Ireland. Cheers Mike.
DeleteThese are looking really great. I'm hoping to see some in person in the not too distant future.
ReplyDeleteBlckthrn- And so you shall, and so you shall. I'll be bringing my current painted pieces to Dundracon for show and tell.

Baron- thanks man! Looking forward to getting some into your mitts!
ReplyDeleteWow, those look great, and the size seems good.
ReplyDeleteSuggest that you compare against plastic Perry figures, since I would guess that a good number of gamers have those these days (Hundred year war, War of the Roses, and European forces from the same time period). Wargames Foundry might be another good comparison (also mostly Perry sculpted!).
Lasgun- Dhoop! I actually took pics with some Foundry Landskncechts and Perry figs. I'll put those pics up in the next round. Thanks!
DeleteI was thinking about these figures, and it occurred to me that it would also make sense to compare against skeletons. Specifically the "old" scale GW plastics (which you have one of) and the current ones.
DeleteI think Mantic skellys are too cartoony to compare, and not sure who else is out there.
In the KS will the different Levels be based on unit size?
ReplyDeleteA-
DeleteI'm leaning towards that as the plan, but need to know what the costs of my castings will be, so I can spread the love.
Cheers
